BigAdda

BigAdda.com, which is touted to be India’s pioneering youth networking site, surely has to do a lot to prove itself and establish a different niche for itself in a country that’s already heavily entrapped by Orkut, Facebook and the likes. But indeed, the Reliance ADA group’s baby is working hard and seems to be getting there.
The latest development made to BigAdda is the incorporation of Web 2.0, which is the new version of the World Wide Web, and is being used at a large scale by various other social networking sites too. Web 2.0 helps in making sites richer, more user friendly and more interactive too.
The inclusion of Web 2.0 had kicked off during the logo selection process, where through a user poll the best official logo for BigAdda had to be selected. Furthermore, BigAdda has intelligently extracted the significant feature interactivity of Web 2.0 in the form of scribbles, blogs and of course the ‘Friends only’ feature which allows users to have complete privacy of their data.
Currently users can upload and download videos and pictures, but in the very near future, they will be able to upload music on BigAdda, allowing them to cater to their need to self-express by sharing their media collection within their network of friends. Thus, making the site a rich user content driven portal.
Speaking about the incorporation of Web 2.0, Siddhartha Roy, Chief Operating Officer, BigAdda said, “With the increasing broadband penetration and growing use of Web 2.0, the Indian web industry is about to see a tremendous growth across the online spectrum. About 54% of the Indians are below 25 years of age and this TG constitutes our core userbase. Going further, we at BigAdda plan to incorporate more features using Web 2.0 making this site further interactive and exciting for our users the moment they log onto it.”
Apart from the addition of Web 2.0, BigAdda had another announcement to make too.
As India get ready to take on the cricket world at the ongoing Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa, BigAdda.com gives its cricket aficionados a chance to cheer India in South Africa along with their friends.
So what do you need to do to get there:
Log on to BigAdda.com and post your slogans on “Cheer for India in South Africa” on ‘The 20/20 cricket adda’ and get a chance to fly with your buddies to South Africa to cheer the Indian Team. The last date for the entries is September 10, 2007. The winners of the contest will be announced on September 12, 2007.
The winners of this contest will win a 4 days’ and 3 nights’ stay in South Africa. What’s more, the winners also get the opportunity to cheer for the Indian cricket team LIVE in South Africa accompanied by three friends, all sponsored by BigAdda.
BigAdda seems to have caught on to the right nerve of Indians, first Bollywood and now Cricket.

Talk 20: Cricket`s new mania

SPORTS: The really short edition of the game could help cricket check the soccer onslaught.

The Twenty20 World Cup, which kicks off this Tuesday, is seeking to build on the debris of the disaster that was the Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean, and the unlikely prop of football’s popularity.

Thus, the war cry of the broadcaster, ESPN-Star Sports, is why wait for four years to win the world cup, the opportunity knocks now. And it is hoping that the Twenty20 World Cup — with three matches of fast-paced action every day, each lasting three hours — will lure viewers the same way that a soccer tournament does.

As if to reflect the game’s nature of a slightly elongated soccer match, the organisers have even shortened the name of the game’s shortest format to T20. In the nature of its play, this format has quickly come a long way from a January day two-and-a-half years ago when a staggering 20,071 people packed the WACA ground in Perth, Australia, to see Western Australia beat Victoria in the first competitive Twenty20 match played in the sports-loving continent. The gates were shut half an hour before the first ball. This was WACA’s first full house since 1981, when ruling elite of the time, West Indies, faced Australia in a one-day international (ODI). The next day, a crowd of 21,254 thronged the Adelaide Oval to see Australia-A pound Pakistan by 56 runs in the first international Twenty20 match.

It has come at an opportune time, when the longest version, the five-day Test, is grappling with low attendance at stadiums, falling television ratings and the waning interest of women and children. The ODIs have begun to appear repetitive and their middle overs boring.

“This will be a very exciting format and generate wide interest,” says Abhiram Seth, executive-director, PepsiCo India, which is a presenting sponsor. It is widely believed that ESPN STAR is selling the advertising spots and sponsorship rights for more than the rates charged for ODIs.

“We have received a very good response from advertisers so far — Pepsi, Hero Honda, Havell’s and Nokia have seen the value of this inaugural world cup and have signed up. We are also in advanced negotiations with many more,” says RC Venkateish, managing director, ESPN Software India, who would not give the rates, outlays, and so on.

Sundar Raman, managing director, MindShare, says there are only a few matches to go by but the signs are positive, and adds: “Advertises pay for audiences.”

The audiences will be wooed, apart from the cricket, by nubile cheer cheerleaders moving to music belted out by eight disc jockeys. Together they will celebrate every four, six and wicket.Outside the ground, the shepherd will be ESPN-STAR’s biggest commentary team for any cricket event: 20 in English, 10 Hindi and seven Tamil. STAR Cricket will adopt the cricket crazy format, which is based on football crazy.

Somewhere in the midst of it, will be 192 ad spots of 10 seconds each, spread over three matches beginning at 1.30 pm and ending at half past midnight. An ODI yields about 150 spots. There will also be about 160 spots for non-live action. ODIs yield 102.

The USP is the tighter format. “The format is of a shorter duration — which means that you get the same slam bang cricketing excitement of an ODI in a tighter package with the extra garnish of music and entertainment. New rules and the mantra of “hit out or get out” also bring in added attraction which we feel would click with the cricket fan,” says Venkateish.

Are people biting? They seem to be. The executive of a multinational company, a big advertiser, says many people can watch the whole of a 20-20 game from the beginning to the end. Test matches are watched only in patches and no one watches an entire ODI. Right now, the purists are not being heard.

20-20 World Cup: Fast and Furious, Yet another thrill in a year

Sep 10: After the adventures ending of World Cup, there is another opportunity to make thrill the people of the world as 20-20 World Cup is going to kick off from Sep 11, 2007. There is another chance for all the 12 nations include the present World Cup champion of the limited over one day international, Australia to bring the International Cricket Council, ICC 20-20 World Cup to home.
This is the first time in the cricket history to organise two world cups in a year especially in just 05 months duration. All the participating nations especially the top eight test playing countries are expecting to capture the cup, which became disappointed in the 50-50 world cup. On the other hand Australia is eyeing to grab all the top honors to prove its superiority to others. It is no wonder that it may win the 20-20 world cup to make the history of being the world champion of being all form of cricket.
Though Cricket Pandits are betting on South Africa and West Indies most followed by Australia, Sri Lanka and England. But it would be dangerous to pronounce earlier ‘who might be the next winner?’ Let’s see the some salient feature of World Cup 20-20.About 20-20 CricketThe sitting members of ICC along with some cricket experts were feeling that the charm of limited over had been decaying by various reasons. So they became serious begin a new format of cricket that can entertain the audience and the interest of the public can be regain. There is also some other reasons behind it; one of them was to made popular cricket in the non-playing nations that argues ‘the wastage of time in playing and watching cricket’ and also to make money. Thus the concept of 20-20 cricket emerged. In this format of cricket each team bats for a maximum of only 20 overs a side, with each innings lasting for 75 minutes.
20-20 cricket was first introduced at county level by the England and Wales Cricket Board in 2003. It became very popular and spread around the world very quickly. The first men’s full Twenty20 international held in February 2005 between New Zealand and Australia and the first 20-20 World Cup International Cricket is going to kick off from Sep 11, 2007 on Tuesday.20-20 World Cup Rules
A Bowler may bowl a maximum of only 4 overs per innings.
Umpires may award 5-run penalty runs at their discretion if they believe either team is wasting time.
The following fielding restrictions apply:
No more than 5 fielders can be on the leg side at any time.
During the first 6 overs, a maximum of 2 fielders can be outside the 30-yard circle.
After the first 6 overs, a maximum of 5 fielders can be outside the fielding circle.
Should a bowler deliver a no ball by overstepping the popping crease, it costs 2 runs and his next delivery is designated a free-hit, from which the batsman can only be dismissed through a run out.
If the fielding team do not start to bowl their 20th over within 75 minutes, the batting side is credited an extra 6 runs for every whole over bowled after the 75 minute mark; the umpire may add more time to this, if he considers the batting team is wasting time.
If the match ends with the scores tied and there must be a winner, the tie is broken with a bowl-out (similar to a penalty shoot-out in football); with 5 bowlers from each side delivering 2 balls each at an unguarded wicket. If the number of wickets is equal after the first 10 balls per side, the bowling continues and is decided by sudden death.

Twenty-20 cricket carnival begins today

Sep 11: The mighty South Africans will take on West Indies sturdy challenge in the opening match of the inaugural ICC Twenty-20 World Cup at their home turf at the Wanderers in Johannesburg later tonight.
Graeme Smith, the South African captain might be in the tough time while coming across of shocking defeat from the hands of Windies team in the 2003 Cricket World Cup tournament held in Cape Town, which cost them a possible second round place. The South African team must be in high confidence with their convincing eight wicket victory over title contender’s Australian side prior to the start of the tournament in their warm match which surely put them in good stead.
South Africa’s AB de Villiers told media after defeating Australia in the warm up match, “The result would certainly give the host a mental edge. It wasn’t just a warm up game. It’s a bit of a psychological advantage to beat the Aussies.”
On the other hand, Windies team will surely come out with the positive frame of mind after posting a 35-run win over formidable New Zealand. Though they struggled in their batting a bit early on, still they are pretty comfortable in their bowling department which is evident from the fiery spell delivered by Daren Powell capturing 3 wickets in his quota.
The slam bang version of the game might swing in anybody’s favour and could turn the table on opponent’s face at any point of time. Anyone can change the momentum of the game and the team which will play better on the given day will rule the roost. So an exciting match is in the offing.
History: Both the team has not played any match against each other.
South Africa Squad: Graeme Smith (captain), Gulam Bodi, Loots Bosman, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Justin Kemp, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Makhaya Ntini, Vernon Philander, Shaun Pollock, Thandi Tshabalala, Johan van der Wath.
